  1. Group Workshop

Moving Tourism in Your Community from Ideas to Action, May 15 – 16, 2018 in Blind River, Ontario

 

This workshop is designed for partners along a new or established touring route in Northern Ontario to attend together to improve and enhance the visitor experience along their route.  Types of touring routes can include ATV, Auto, Boating, Cycling and RV.

 

Led by TEN Specialist Dr. Laurel Reid, Tourism Synergy, a sought-after speaker and workshop leader in tourism having worked with businesses, communities/destinations, Boards and associations involved in tourism strategy development, capacity building, advising, educating and training.

 

Over one-and-a-half days, participants will learn the fundamentals of experiential travel, learn how to identify the key players involved in the delivery of touring routes, identify priority areas for development, identify their community’s gaps and assets, and create a detailed action plan to develop and implement their objectives.

 

Ideal participants include municipal or city senior staff, touring route managers, destination development managers, community champions, tourism professionals, funders, tourism business owners along or near a route and tour operators offering touring itineraries.

  1. Best Practices Mission Trip

Welcome the World to Your Business: Attracting and Understanding the International Visitor

Toronto/Niagara Region/the Kawarthas, Ontario

April 9 – 12, 2018

 

The International Visitors’ Best Practices Mission trip is designed specifically for decision-makers and managers from tourism operations across Northern Ontario wishing to expand or grow their share of the international travel market.

 

Trip facilitator and TEN Specialist Eva Gutsche, of STEM Consulting, has extensive experience working with the international market from a variety of perspectives.  As a tourism operator Eva worked globally with a variety of international trade shows, trade missions and partnered sales trips with provincial tourism offices and airlines.  Most recently her focus has been working with Destination Canada with a primary focus on the Canadian Signature Experience.

 

Eva will start you off with an in-depth look at the various opportunities available to you and your business.  Provided is an overview of the many options for attracting international visitors and the ground work to effectively assess what options would be the best fit for your tourism business.  You will participate in a variety of unique on-site tourism experiences designed to appeal to international travellers from both a visitor and management perspective.  These business range in size and type from large branded operations to small family run businesses.  All the businesses we will meet with get their share of the global market and tap into these opportunities quite differently. You will also connect with tourism industry leaders who successfully sell Ontario to the world.

 

The City of Toronto is a gateway for international visitors from around the globe.  Businesses of all sizes, in Toronto and the surrounding area, welcome millions of international travellers each year.  The surrounding area is also home to key receptive tour operators, airlines and other tourism booking providers. This area is rich with opportunity to learn from the best.

  1. Best Practices Mission Trip

Making the Quality Shift: A Progressive Learning Tour

North Bay/Sundridge/Huntsville, Ontario

May 8-10, 2018

 

This three-day, two-night Progressive Learning Tour will be a peer-to-peer tour focusing on best-in-class accommodation operators in Northern Ontario and Explorers’ Edge regions.

 

The trip is designed specifically for owners, general/senior managers and operational/facility staff of fixed roof accommodations throughout Northern Ontario who want to improve the quality of their business and their bottom line.  Led by TEN Specialist Chris Hughes, of BC Hughes participants will return home with knowledge and operational strategies that can easily be implemented into their own accommodation businesses.

 

Chris is meticulous about the little things that make great destinations.  Chris’ extensive experience working on the ground in tourism product development contributes to the firms combined 30 years of experience in destination development and management.  Chris has a straightforward, realistic approach, coupled with extensive Northern Ontario knowledge.

 

The trip will address strategies on how to manage renovations and reinvestment construction to minimize impact on guests, how to attract and retain seasonal staff, considerations for property reinvestment and how sustainability practices can benefit your business and the environment.

 

 

Departing from North Bay, participants will get a behind the scenes tour of a variety of accommodation types, network with peers, learn about successes and challenges of attracting and sustaining visitors, and simple quality enhancements which can be implemented to improve their bottom line.
