Northern Ontario aims to go Global

Canada’s tourism industry continues to see strong growth as a favoured destination of overseas visitors.  Tourism Northern Ontario’s international initiative began with a training, sales and marketing strategy that sees working with Jonview Canada, the leading Canadian inbound operator, and lead sub-regional partners like Northeastern Ontario Tourism, Algoma Country, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay Tourism to identify key industry market-ready suppliers and connect that product into purchasable components of itineraries.

Last spring, Tourism Northern Ontario and our partners ensured there was a Northern Ontario presence at RendezVous Canada: Canada’s main marketplace for overseas tourism products and experiences.  Tourism Northern Ontario, again with our partners, hosted a successful product launch and breakfast at RendezVous.  Last fall, Northern product was featured for the first time on an overseas sales mission to Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Results of the initiative to date see more Northern product making it into international tariffs for 2019, as well as a select group of German tour operators travelling through the Lake Superior region this spring.

With plans to participate again this spring at RendezVous and a sales mission to the UK and Ireland as well as the possibility of Asia, we look forward to increased growth in travel from overseas market to Northern Ontario.
