Am I an eligible Employer?
For employers, those who operate in the following fields within RTO 13, will be considered eligible for Tourism SkillsNet North:
- Accommodation (B&B, Hotel, Motel, Lodge, Campground etc.)
- Attraction
- Adventure Outfitter (ATV, Camping, Canoe/Kayaking, Horseback Riding, Dog Sledding etc.)
- Fishing/Hunting Outfitter
- Restaurant/Culinary Establishment
- Activity Based (Hiking, Interpretive Program, Wildlife Viewing, Cross Country Skiing, Downhill Skiing etc.)
- Retail
- Service (Air Service, Marina Boat/Launch, Meeting Facility, Wedding Service)
- Cultural Attraction (Heritage Site, Museum, Art Gallery)
An eligible “Retail” establishment under the Tourism SkillsNet Program is defined as a business that provides physical goods related to the tourism and hospitality sector. The following are examples of this type of establishment:
- Powersports, marine and pleasure craft dealers (businesses that sell or rent boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, outboard motors, canoes, kayaks etc.)
- Stores that focus on selling outdoor recreational equipment for use in activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, etc.
- Gift and souvenir stores
The term ‘tourism operator’ is defined as a tourism, festival, heritage, cultural or sport consumer-facing tourism business (non-profit and for profit) that has direct access to the tourism consumer and relies on that consumer for their income.
What are the program requirements?
To be eligible to participate in the program as an employer, you must meet the following requirements:
- Operate within the areas serviced by Destination Northern Ontario (RTO13), which extends from the French River northwards to the Manitoba border.
- Provide Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario with adequate payroll records for the wage subsidy.
How do I receive wage subsidy?
To receive the wage subsidy, you must ensure that your newly hired employees meet the eligibility criteria and complete the participant registration form.
To support as many businesses as possible, the following conditions have been established:
- Each organization is eligible to receive wage subsidies for up to a maximum of 10 employees for the program.
- The wage subsidies are prioritized on a first come first served basis, based on the completion of training.
