Tourism Northern Ontario looks forward to 2018

The board and staff at TNO are heading full speed into 2018 with a top priority on their minds: to make Northern Ontario a destination of choice by championing growth in the industry through strong communication and collaboration with partners. Everything Tourism Northern Ontario is involved with is deeply rooted in partnership. There has been a great deal of work to ensure the organization is aligned with our provincial tourism partners at Destination Ontario as well as the framework laid out by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

As we move through this alignment process, it is of great importance that we communicate with our industry in an effective and clear manner so that programs and opportunities are available to DMOs, municipalities and communities and of course, our Northern tourism operators. Be on the look out for a new website design at

www.tourismnorthernontario.com that will be tailored to the needs of our partners so they can find the best information and programs in the clearest way possible.

There is much to communicate out and for our partners to participate in! 2018 will see the roll out of a new Visitor Information Hub where front line staff can access vital information in directing visitors around the North. Tourism Excellence North already has a busy calendar for 2018 with several exciting Best Practice Missions in the works (see article below for more details).

Our partnership portfolio will continue to grow with our provincial and federal partners, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and FedNor. These partnerships vary from product development initiatives – like our new Experience Fishing campaign; to marketing campaigns such as a new angling show ‘The Ontario Experience’. Partnership programs could not happen without the engagement and involvement of the industry, and we will be working hard to ensure that these opportunities are communicated out so that they may be properly subscribed to.

We will be regularly reaching out to our partners throughout the year for your feedback in order to keep our programs as relevant as possible – so if you’re reading our newsletters, and see a chance to give us some input, please remember we depend on these comments to better serve you.

We look forward to working with you in 2018. Cheers to another year in tourism!
