As Northern Ontario continues to dominate the Ontario snowmobile scene with consistent snow, low temperatures, high quality grooming and trail side hospitality, there are efforts underway to make it even better.
The World’s Best Snowmobile Destination project began in 2015 as a collaborative way to firmly cement Northeastern Ontario as a leading snowmobile destination. Destination Northern Ontario and its funding partners have recognized snowmobiling as a core winter tourism product and is supporting snowmobile product development, refinement and marketing for the next three years. DNO has hired a leading motor sports development team of BC Hughes, Markey Consulting and JPO NEXT Consulting to spearhead the project.
BC Hughes’ Chris and Bev Hughes and team have their right hand on the throttle at all times. Working on several powersports tourism projects spanning the country, BC Hughes has helped to develop Ride Lake Superior, Sled Algoma, Ride the Willie, Ride the Highlands and Ride the North and have also helped to find solutions for back country riders. They are the project managers and are focused on overall experience enhancement and marketing.
Markey Consulting’s Marla Tremblay, knows that snowmobilers travel light and in large groups. As part of the World’s Best Snowmobile Destination original project team, Marla is determined to use her expertise to mobilize the recommendations. Marla will be focused on training and education throughout the project.
JPO NEXT Consulting’s J.P. Ouellette is working hard to make Canada 2-stroke again. JP is no stranger to sledding as the former CAO of Cochrane. He has shifted careers and is now bringing his skills to propel this project to the next level. JP is the go-to guy on the ground focused on partnerships, stakeholder relations and route logistics.
