Industry Communications Coordinator – Internship (12 months)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate individual with great attention to detail to join our team at Tourism Northern Ontario!
The Industry Communications Coordinator will help to fill existing gaps identified in our organization including priorities in product development and marketing and communications.
The intern will be responsible for gathering, inputting and updating a pan-northern tourism industry database which will be a cornerstone to several product development, workforce training, marketing and communication initiatives. The intern will also play a key role in industry/corporate communications under the Senior Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
This position may include travel within Northern Ontario.
Roles and Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for working with sub-regional tourism organizations, municipalities and DMOs in order to gather existing tourism industry databases, as well as filling in informational gaps within those databases as the information in amalgamated into one centralized database. The intern will be responsible in ensuring the database is relevant to the needs of Tourism Northern Ontario programs and priority pillars. This will include data entry and segmentation.
The intern will also be responsible for corporate and industry communication tasks including briefing press releases, preparing correspondence, coordinating monthly industry newsletters and preparing executive marketing summary reports.
The intern will be responsible for many elements of the annual Northern Ontario Tourism Summit. This event is our largest industry communication and engagement effort each year. Responsibilities will include web development, industry sponsorships, application development and on-site logistics.
Preferred Experience and Mandatory Qualifications
The ideal candidate would have a background in public relations, communications or business. Experience in the tourism industry is preferred. Knowledge of data entry would be an asset.
University or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university. The candidate must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program. The position will be a first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study.
The incumbent must possess the ability to read, speak and write in English. French will be considered a strong asset.
- Recent post-secondary graduate (within the last 3 years)
- Internships must provide first-time employment in a related field.
- The intern must also not have previously participated in an internship program.
